Happy International Women’s Day! Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a significant gift to women across India: a reduction of ₹100 in the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders. Effective immediately, this reduction aims to alleviate financial burdens on households, particularly benefiting the empowered women of our nation. Modi emphasized the government's commitment to supporting families and promoting environmental sustainability by making cooking gas more affordable.
The price cut, applicable nationwide, brings the cost of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder to ₹803 in Delhi for the general public. Additionally, the Union Cabinet has approved the continuation of a targeted subsidy of ₹300 per cylinder for up to 12 refills per year under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) during the fiscal year 2025. This subsidy, amounting to ₹12,000 crore, is a testament to the government's dedication to the welfare of over 10.27 crore PMUY beneficiaries.
